Farmingdale Computer Lab News:
Welcome to the Computer Lab website! Here you will find many resources for online academic activities. Students in grades Kindergarten through Fourth use Google Classroom in Technology for assignments and activity links. Google Classroom activities are updated frequently.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten students learn the basics of using a mouse, touchpad, and navigating the internet.
First Semester:
House Series on Desktops: mouse control
Various Websites: Maximize screen, arrow keys, two-finger scroll, accessing the main menu, using links.

Second Semester:
Students use Chromebooks and explore websites while building technology skills such as touchpad control, arrow use, and website navigation.
Second Grade
Students work on typing complete sentences using proper capitalization and punctuation. Students also learn introductory design with shapes and colors.
First Semester: Multiple Google Classroom assignments that introduce using the keyboards and identifying and typing special characters, typing complete sentences, adding shapes and filling shapes with solid and gradient colors, and turning those shapes into identifiable objects such as apple trees and creatures.

Second Semester: Students are introduced to the Code Hop program and develop basic coding and programming skills in the Scratch Jr. platform.
First Grade
The focus of first grade Technology is on finding letters on the keyboard, dragging and dropping items, and resizing objects.
First Semester: Google Classroom assignments that practice Dragging/Dropping/Resizing, finding letters on the keyboard, and typing words.

Second Semester: Graphing in Google Sheets is introduced, and students complete some basic coding/programming.
Third Grade
Third grade students learn basic formatting tools, build on their basic design skills, and are introduced to 3-D design. Third grade also learns about infrared and ultraviolet light, and they spend some time learning about GPS technology.
First Semester: Multiple Google Classroom assignments introduced students to skills such as bullet points, changing fonts and font colors, spell check, copying and pasting images to create scenes, ordering and arranging items on a page, and introductory 3D design in TinkerCAD. Students have created name tags, and are designing 3-D snowflakes.

Second Semester: TinkerCAD is still used in this semester, but students also spend several weeks on Internet Safety, they explore infrared and ultraviolet technologies, and they learn about GPS technology.
Fourth Grade
Students focus on creating presentations and multiple 3-D designs. Students also explore electricity and use Makey-Makey devices and micro:Bits.
First Semester: Students review formatting skills they learned in third grade, then apply those skills in a 5-6 slide presentation. Students present their projects to their class. Students make a tradable coin in TinkerCAD, design furniture for small robots, and will begin designing an adaptable device.

Second Semester: TinkerCAD designing continues, but researching Braille, electricity exploration, LegoCAD, and AI activities are introduced. Students spend two weeks discussing internet safety topics such as malware, online bullying, and discussing instances when adult help and guidance are needed.
